Many people regard Stansted as just an airport which they enter as a means of getting to London or other parts of the UK. However, it is worth noting that the village of Stansted Mountfitchet is only 2 miles from the airport and well worth a visit. It may not be on your agenda but make sure you do some research before you discount it as it could be a place that you are really glad you visited. It is a typical village and although not a ‘chocolate box’ as the Cotswolds it is a lot closer to the airport and equally as interesting as any one of those villages. So if you would like to look at a typical UK village as part of your travels in the UK, then jump in your rental car and head to Stansted Mountfitchet.

Being a village, there are not the hoards of attractions that you will find in the city. However, you will have the opportunity to experience the peaceful village life, look at the working windmill, and the castle remnants as well as visit the largest toy museum in Europe which is located there. It is a great chance to wind down and relax after your journey, which is likely to have at least some stress involved in it. Imagine getting off the plane, collecting luggage and then driving to a relaxing village, listening to the birds sing and admiring the quaint buildings. Would certainly be a relaxing start to the trip.
